Reading Fun!

16.04.2015

It was on the 8th of April, when we all tried to put the pieces of the puzzle together: Darkest Peru, Wellington boots an old-fashioned red hat, jars of marmalade, London...hmmm...what do you think about, imagining all those things? The pupils of centre 3 thought about a bear! And they were absolutely right! Paddington Bear, a little, cute and funny bear, well-bred and brave, who came all the way from Darkest Peru by himself to live in London, find a family and learn English.
Last year there was a film about Paddington and most of the pupils watched it of course. But not all of them knew that there was a book originally, written by Michael Bond. Eager to get acquainted with it? Yes, they were! But it was not that easy. Before the pupils could read the book, they had to make it by hand themselves! For some of them, it was their first experience of book-making, some turned out to be real experts, but for everyone it was positive and successful. Finally, the pupils read their colourful pocket books! And after that, surprise surprise — a cartoon about Paddington (yes, there is not only a film- he seems very popular).
After centre 3 learnt everything about Paddington, they all came down to the gym, as it was time to check, who were the most attentive readers and who had really learnt everything about Paddington — quiz time! The pupils were split into 5 teams, each representing a character from the book, and were to answer 12 tricky questions about the plot, the characters and the details. All 5 teams succeeded!
Finally it was time to draw some conclusions. The pupils followed their English teachers back up to the classrooms in order to learn to write a book review. It was the first experience for the pupils of centre 3, they thought about the book, the characters, what they liked and did not like and gave reasons for that as well as trying to identify the main idea of the story... Now that they are familiar with this new skill, they are sure to develop it with the help and guidance of their English teachers, of course!

Special thanks to Ms Julia, Ms Kate, Ms Dina,

whose talents and endless energy
resulted in this outstanding event.
