HE WHO LAUGHS, LASTS!

18.12.2018

Laughter is a powerful antidote to stress, pain, and conflict. Nothing works faster to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humour lightens your burden, inspires hope, connects you to others and keeps you grounded, focused and alert. Best of all though, laughter makes you feel good. The good feeling you get when laugh remains with you even after you stop laughing.

In continuing with what seems to be a remarkable and beautiful tradition as Christmas approaches, a poetry lounge event was organized for the 8th grade on the 13th of December, 2018. This event which celebrates life saw students, parents, teachers and the administration of Golden Section join hands together to simply enjoy life and appreciate spoken words.
‘What a wonderful world’ was our theme for the last year and this year what better way to enjoy our wonderful world than to laugh along with it? Humour was our theme and the tone for the event was set by Faya Pasternak as she declared her love for homework by reciting Kenn Nesbitt’s, ’Homework, I love you’. Nikita Merkulov was a break out star which was shown by the way he recited,’ Today is not a good day’ with such passion and emotion. A little drama changed the pace of things when Nika Kozlova recited, ’My teacher took my iPhone’ while Faya Pasternak acted it out. ’Chocolate forever’ is what Darya Kononenko would use her powers for if she were God as recited by an unknown author. Vova Zaitsev stole the show however, with his hilarious rendition of ’Be glad your nose is on your face’.
A surprise by one of the school’s principals Dina Grigorievna, who is a published poet herself, were gifts to students who stood out not only in their performance but their determination to overcome challenges. Bright faces, light hearted music, a Christmas tree, words cannot convey the atmosphere which set the tone for the day as earlier said about laughter, even after the event was over, the feel-good factor remains.
Here are a few things the students had to say about the event:

Scientists say that laughter makes our lives longer, but to be honest, if you look at a problem from a different angle, if you don’t take it too seriously but with a sense of humour, you will overcome all problems and your life will be much easier.

Faya Pasternak
I loved this event because it was a challenge for me to perform in English in front of a lot of people and at the end of the day, everything was amazing. The atmosphere was beautiful.
Alexey Shelyag
This event helped me develop my memory and now I can quickly switch between English and Russian languages.
Vova Zaitsev
While preparing for this event, I practiced my pronunciation and I learnt new words (about the computer). This event helped me not to be scared before an audience while presenting in English next time.
Polina Mikhailova
It was my first performance ever.
Jamal
I felt very insecure at first. Perhaps because the others were sitting very close to the stage and I usually don’t want to perform when there are so many people but I overcame my fears and ended up liking this event because I heard a lot of food and funny poems and some poems I will recall definitely.
Darya Kononenko
I enjoyed this event because it was an unforgettable experience. The most difficult thing for me was to overcome the excitement. I developed my acting and pronunciation skills.
